Avoiding plagiarism

Plagiarism is taken seriously within the university but helpful guidance and support is available:

Also remember that your programme handbook will have information and guidance on this issue.

Reference management software

Reference management software lets you store, annotate and group references and also automatically creates citations and reference lists in your documents. There are a number of different reference management software tools available. For help in deciding which is right for you, please see our software comparison table from the link below:

For more information there is a self-enrol Learn course where you can learn about four of the most popular options : Endnote,  Mendeley, Zotero and Citavi.

Remember: Not all databases will export citations to Reference Management Software.

EndNote is a reference management software tool that is supported by the University and available as a desktop or web application. The desktop version has the full range of features and functions and is installed on the university open access lab computers. EndNote online, is freely available but has more limited functions. Both the desk top and web versions provide automatic citing in Microsoft Word, by using the "Cite While You Write" plug-in. This plug-in is available on the university computers.

Help with EndNote:

The Digital Skills and Training programme includes workshops and webinars on EndNote for which anyone can sign up and for which the workbooks are sometimes available for people to go through themselves in their own time.
