Why use the Interlibrary Loan service?

Use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service to obtain material not held by Edinburgh University Library (EUL) and also to request material held in EUL's University Collections Facility and other (selected) libraries.

Your first 30 (five for undergraduates) ILLs in a year are free. For requests of EUL held material, eg in the University Collections Facility, there is no cap on the number of free requests.

Make a request by signing into DiscoverEd and then using the "INTER LIBRARY LOAN REQUEST" option in DiscoverEd's top menu.

Requests often take as little as 2-3 working days to arrive. Physical items are sent to the pick-up/delivery location selected and usually for you to borrow, although some may be reference only. Electronic article or chapter copies are sent to you and are yours to keep.

If you are an ODL student, when submitting ILL requests, please make it clear in the notes field that you are on a distance programme.
